Parmjit Discusses Mortgage Repossessions on The Politics Show West
31 January 2010
Gloucester MP Parmjit Dhanda appeared on BBC’s The Politics Show West this Sunday. Discussions ranged from the governments mortgage rescue scheme to the need for further investment into job creation in order to keep residents in their own homes.
Gloucester residents who are faced with the potential of their homes being repossessed need to seek the help and assistance that the government is providing. There are many avenues where help is available, including a government website and free advice line. Parmjit recognizes the complexity of the situation since each resident’s case is unique.
The current economy is difficult to navigate, but continued investment and increased regulation of lenders are steps toward fully bringing us out the recession. With many banks now owned by the government, more stringent restrictions can be placed on lenders to prevent the repossession of residents’ homes. Additionally, the government has invested £5 billion nationally into job creation and protection. Specifically, £4 million has been invested by Gloucester Works into the creation of hundreds of new jobs.

Parmjit Dhanda commented:
“We mustn’t choke off the help for people in a time of need…sometimes governments actually need to step in.”
